A kitchen is usually the biggest project a homeowner takes on, so "what does it cost" is always the first question. There is no single answer, but there are honest ranges. Here is how kitchen pricing works around Littleton and the greater Denver area, and where the dollars really go.
Typical price ranges
Most kitchens fall into three tiers. Treat these as a broad, approximate starting point for the Denver metro, not a quote. Your actual number depends on the size of the room, the products you choose, and how much of the work you take on yourself.
- Cosmetic refresh, roughly $15,000 to $30,000. New countertops, backsplash, hardware, paint, and lighting, often with refaced or repainted existing cabinets. The layout stays put.
- Mid-range remodel, roughly $30,000 to $65,000. New semi-custom cabinets, quartz or granite counters, tile, flooring, a new sink and faucet, and updated lighting. This is the remodel most homeowners picture.
- Major or high-end, $65,000 and up. Custom cabinetry, moving a wall or plumbing, adding an island, high-end appliances, and premium finishes throughout.
Where the money goes
In a typical kitchen, cabinets are the single largest cost, often 30 to 40 percent of the budget. After that it is usually labor, then countertops and appliances. A rough breakdown:
- Cabinets: 30 to 40 percent
- Labor and installation: 20 to 30 percent
- Countertops: 10 to 15 percent
- Appliances: 10 to 15 percent
- Flooring, lighting, fixtures, and the rest: the remainder
How to control the cost without cheaping out
You do not have to spend at the top of the range to get a kitchen you love. A few levers make the biggest difference:
- Keep the existing layout. Moving plumbing, gas, or walls adds cost fast. A great design often works within the footprint you have.
- Choose semi-custom cabinets. Quality lines give you most of the look of full custom for less.
- Pick the right counter for the room, not the trend. Quartz and granite both look great and cost far less than exotic slabs.
- Do some of the work. Even handling demo or painting yourself trims the labor line.
The part most quotes hide: how hands-on you want to be
At Foothills, the same kitchen can cost meaningfully less or more depending on how you work with us. Buy the product and install it yourself and you pay for materials. Bring your own contractor and we handle the products and coordination while you run the schedule. Or we act as your general contractor and manage the whole job. You choose the level of help, and no one is steering you toward the priciest option.
